Do I need the candidate's consent to run a background check in Kenya?+
Yes. Under the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 you need a lawful basis to process a candidate's personal data, and for background checks that is their consent. Cazini collects that consent from the candidate before any check starts.
How long does a background check take in Kenya?+
It depends on the check: identity and KRA PIN verification take about an hour, a criminal record check about one working day, education and employment checks one to three working days, and reference checks three to eight working days.
Can I verify a candidate's KRA PIN?+
Yes. Cazini's KRA PIN verification confirms the PIN is valid and matches the candidate, usually within about an hour.
