About the Job
The Network & Infrastructure Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, deploying, and improving operational network and infrastructure environments across Blurok Africa, WiFi Guru, Techcipe, and related customer environments. This role combines: network engineering; infrastructure operations; systems administration; deployment coordination; project execution; monitoring; troubleshooting; and operational reliability management.
The role is designed for a highly practical and execution-oriented engineer capable of operating effectively across: enterprise infrastructure;
ISP operational environments;
cloud and on-prem systems;
firewall and security environments;
hybrid connectivity deployments; and customer operational ecosystems.
The ideal candidate is:

Responsibilities
- A. Infrastructure Operations & Reliability
- Infrastructure Monitoring
- Monitor operational environments using approved monitoring and observability platforms including:
- Zabbix;
- LibreNMS;
- Uptime Kuma;
- Netdata;
- MikroTik tools;
- and related operational monitoring systems.
- Operational Reliability
- Maintain stable operational environments through:
- proactive monitoring;
- preventive maintenance;
- infrastructure reviews;
- capacity awareness;
- and rapid fault isolation.
- Incident Management
- Serve as a primary operational escalation point for:
- connectivity issues;
- infrastructure outages;
- firewall incidents;
- VPN failures;
- server-related disruptions;
- and customer-impacting operational events.
- Root Cause Analysis
- Conduct structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis to:
- identify recurring operational failures;
- reduce repeat incidents;
- improve infrastructure stability;
- and strengthen operational resilience.
- B. Network Engineering & Connectivity Operations
- Network Infrastructure Support
- Deploy, configure, and maintain:
- MikroTik environments;
- VLAN and switching environments;
- VPN systems;
- firewall environments;
- wireless infrastructure;
- and inter-site connectivity solutions.
- Routing & Connectivity
- Support operational routing environments including:
- static routing;
- OSPF;
- VPN connectivity;
- and customer network integrations.
- Advanced or highly specialized routing environments may be escalated to external specialists where appropriate.
- Firewall & Security Operations
- Support deployment and maintenance of:
- Sophos;
- pfSense;
- MikroTik firewall environments;
- and access control systems.
- Wireless & Connectivity Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot:
- wireless instability;
- connectivity interruptions;
- VLAN issues;
- DNS failures;
- VPN issues;
- and infrastructure communication problems.
- C. Systems Administration & Infrastructure Support
- Server & Systems Operations
- Support deployment and maintenance of:
- Windows Server environments;
- Linux systems;
- virtualization platforms;
- Proxmox environments;
- backup systems;
- and cloud infrastructure environments.
- Cloud & Identity Support
- Support operational environments involving:
- Office 365;
- cloud identity systems;
- endpoint management;
- and collaboration environments.
- Backup & Recovery Operations
- Assist with:
- backup verification;
- recovery testing;
- infrastructure redundancy;
- and disaster recovery readiness.
- D. Project Coordination & Deployment Management
- Infrastructure Project Execution
- Coordinate and support execution of:
- infrastructure deployments;
- firewall rollouts;
- network upgrades;
- monitoring implementations;
- server deployments;
- and customer onboarding projects.
- Project Tracking
- Track:
- deployment progress;
- operational blockers;
- project timelines;
- technical dependencies;
- and implementation risks.
- Cross-Team Coordination
- Work closely with:
- field engineers;
- telecom teams;
- delivery leads;
- developers;
- and external vendors
- to ensure operational execution remains organized and aligned.
- Deployment Quality Assurance
- Ensure deployments meet:
- operational standards;
- documentation standards;
- security expectations;
- and infrastructure quality requirements.
- E. Troubleshooting & Operational Execution
- Structured Troubleshooting
- Perform practical and systematic troubleshooting across:
- network infrastructure;
- systems environments;
- cloud services;
- monitoring systems;
- firewall environments;
- and customer operational platforms.
- Operational Escalation Handling
- Take ownership during:
- operational incidents;
- customer-impacting outages;
- infrastructure degradation;
- and deployment escalations.
- Technical Problem Solving
- The ability to troubleshoot effectively, isolate problems quickly, and restore operational stability is considered one of the most important success factors for this role.

- Infrastructure Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date:
- topology diagrams;
- rack layouts;
- firewall records;
- IP allocation records;
- operational notes;
- deployment documentation;
- and infrastructure inventories.
- Operational Logging
- All:
- incidents;
- changes;
- deployments;
- troubleshooting activities;
- maintenance work;
- and operational actions
- must be documented accurately within approved operational systems.
- Work not documented may be treated as work not completed.
- Responsiveness
- High responsiveness is expected during:
- operational incidents;

- and active deployment windows.
- Urgent operational communications should be acknowledged as quickly as operationally possible during working hours.
- Weekly Operational Reporting
- Provide weekly operational updates covering:
- uptime observations;
- recurring issues;
- operational risks;
- deployment progress;
- escalation trends;
- infrastructure concerns;
- blockers;
- and operational improvement recommendations.
Qualifications
- 3–6 years hands-on experience in:
- network engineering;
- infrastructure operations;
- systems administration;
- ISP operations;
- MSP environments;
- or enterprise infrastructure support roles.
- Technical Capability
- Strong practical familiarity with:
- MikroTik environments;
- firewalls;
- VPN systems;
- switching and VLANs;
- monitoring systems;
- Windows and Linux administration;
- virtualization platforms;
- cloud environments;
- and operational infrastructure troubleshooting.
- Preferred Exposure
- Exposure to:
- Proxmox;
- Sophos;
- Office 365;
- Zabbix;
- and cloud infrastructure environments
- is advantageous.
- The role requires someone capable of balancing:

- CERTIFICATIONS (ADVANTAGEOUS, NOT ABSOLUTE)

- Practical operational capability and troubleshooting ability are prioritized over certifications alone.
