Most government jobs in Uganda are filled by one of four bodies: the **Public Service Commission (PSC)** for central government posts, **District Service Commissions** for local government posts, the **Education Service Commission** for teachers, and the **Health Service Commission** for health workers. PSC applications are made **online**, using the standard **PSC Form 3**, and applying is free.

## Who recruits for which jobs

| Body | Recruits for | Where to find adverts |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Public Service Commission (PSC) | Ministries, departments and agencies of central government | psc.go.ug and its e-recruitment portal |
| District Service Commissions | District and municipal local government staff | The district's notice boards, website and newspaper adverts |
| Education Service Commission | Teachers and education officers | esc.go.ug |
| Health Service Commission | Health workers | hsc.go.ug |

Statutory bodies and state enterprises, such as URA or NSSF, recruit through their own careers pages. The army, police and prisons recruit separately - see [UPDF recruitment](https://cazini.co.ke/guides/updf-recruitment-requirements) and [Uganda Police recruitment](https://cazini.co.ke/guides/uganda-police-recruitment).

## How to apply on the PSC portal

The Commission accepts applications **only through its online portal**.

1. **Register once** on the e-recruitment portal, linked from [psc.go.ug](https://www.psc.go.ug), using your **National ID number** and an **email address** you check.
2. **Read the advert** for the post: the title, the minimum qualifications and experience, and the closing date.
3. **Prepare your documents** as PDFs:
   - A completed **PSC Form 3**, in the edition the advert asks for (recent adverts asked for the 2024 edition).
   - **Certified copies** of your academic documents and transcripts.
   - Your **National ID**.
   - Contact details of **three referees**.
4. **Apply** for the post before the deadline and keep a copy of your submission.

Check each advert for upload limits and how many posts you may apply for - older adverts limited file sizes and allowed applicants to apply for only one or two posts per round.

## Filling in PSC Form 3 well

- **Complete every section.** Leave nothing blank; write "N/A" where a question does not apply to you.
- **Match the advert.** List the qualifications and experience the post asks for in the same terms the advert uses.
- **Be exact with dates** of study and employment - they are checked against your documents.
- **Choose referees who know your work,** and tell them they may be contacted.
- **Sign it** where it asks for a signature before you scan it.

## What happens after you apply

The Commission's process runs through **advertising, shortlisting, written assessments and oral interviews**, and it works to a standard timeline of about **90 working days**.

- **Shortlists** are published by the Commission. Check them yourself rather than waiting for a call.
- **Written assessments** test the knowledge the post needs.
- **Oral interviews** follow for those who pass. Bring your **original** documents and National ID.

If you do not hear from the Commission once the selection exercise is complete, assume you were not successful this time, and apply for the next suitable post.

## District, education and health service commissions

**District Service Commissions** recruit for each district and municipality. Adverts are placed in the newspapers, on the district's notice boards and website, and the advert says exactly how and where to apply, including whether to use PSC Form 3.

**Teachers** apply for government posts through the [Education Service Commission](https://www.esc.go.ug) or the district service commission, depending on the post. **Health workers** apply through the [Health Service Commission](https://www.hsc.go.ug) or the district. Read the advert to see which body is recruiting.

> **Government recruitment in Uganda is free.** No commission charges you to apply, sit an assessment or attend an interview. Anyone asking for money to "secure" a government job is committing a crime - report them to the police.

## Prepare before the advert comes out

Adverts often close within a few weeks, so have these ready in advance:

- Your **National ID** and NIN.
- **Certified copies** of your academic documents and transcripts.
- An up-to-date **CV** and a clean, signed **PSC Form 3** you can adapt.
- Three referees who have agreed to support you.
