Most Kenyan government jobs are advertised and applied for **online**. National civil service jobs go through the **Public Service Commission (PSC)** portal, teaching jobs through the **Teachers Service Commission (TSC)**, and county jobs through each **County Public Service Board**. Applying is free, and many adverts no longer accept paper applications at all.

## Where government jobs are advertised

| Employer | Where jobs are advertised | How you apply |
| --- | --- | --- |
| National government ministries and departments | publicservice.go.ke and the PSC jobs portal | Online at psckjobs.go.ke |
| Public universities and independent offices | Public Service Commission | Online, on PSC's separate universities and independent offices system |
| Teachers (public schools) | tsc.go.ke, under Careers | Online, on TSC Teachers Online |
| Counties | Each county's website and the newspapers | As the advert says, usually the county public service board's portal or email |
| State corporations (e.g. Kenya Power, KPA) | The corporation's own careers page | On the corporation's own recruitment portal |
| National Police Service | npsc.go.ke | On the National Police Service Commission's portal, when advertised |

Adverts are also carried in the national newspapers, but the advert always names the portal to apply on. Treat any job you only ever see on WhatsApp or Facebook as unconfirmed until you find it on the employer's own website.

## How to apply on the PSC jobs portal

1. **Register.** Go to [psckjobs.go.ke](https://www.psckjobs.go.ke) and create an account with your ID or passport number, surname, a current email address and a password.
2. **Complete your profile.** Fill in every section: personal details, academic qualifications, professional qualifications, work experience, professional memberships and referees. The Commission does not consider incomplete applications.
3. **Upload your documents.** Have scanned copies of your ID, certificates and transcripts ready as PDFs.
4. **Choose the advert and apply.** Read the requirements for that exact post, including the job grade and the reference number, then submit.
5. **Track your application.** Shortlists and interview schedules are published by the Commission, and shortlisted candidates are told when and where to attend.

> **PSC does not charge any fees** for applications, shortlisting, interviews or appointments. Never pay anyone who promises to "push" your application or get you on a shortlist.

### Tips that help your PSC application

- **Match the requirements line by line.** Shortlisting compares your profile to the minimum requirements for the post - years of experience, qualifications, professional registration. If you do not meet one, you will not be shortlisted.
- **Keep your profile current.** You fill it in once and reuse it, so update it when you finish a course or change jobs.
- **Prepare your clearances.** Shortlisted or successful candidates are usually asked for [Chapter Six clearance certificates](https://cazini.co.ke/guides/chapter-six-clearance-kenya) - start the certificate of good conduct early.
- **Bring originals to the interview.** Shortlisted candidates are normally asked to bring original certificates and ID.

## How to apply for TSC teaching jobs

Teaching jobs in public schools are filled by the Teachers Service Commission. You must already be **registered with TSC** and have a TSC number - the portal checks it, and unregistered graduates cannot complete an application.

1. Look for the current advert on [tsc.go.ke](https://www.tsc.go.ke) under Careers. TSC advertises recruitment of teachers in rounds, often for a specific level such as junior school.
2. Log in to the **Teachers Online** portal with your TSC number and details.
3. Choose the vacancy you are applying for and submit before the deadline. In recent rounds TSC has accepted online applications only.

TSC's non-teaching secretariat jobs use a different system, which is linked from the same careers page.

## County government jobs

Each of Kenya's 47 counties has a **County Public Service Board** that recruits county staff, such as health workers, ECDE teachers, enforcement officers and administrators. Adverts appear on the county's website and in the newspapers, and each advert says how to apply - by the county's own portal, by email or by hand delivery. Requirements and application methods differ between counties, so read each advert's eligibility and "how to apply" sections closely.

## Internships in government

The Public Service Commission runs a **Public Service Internship Programme** for recent graduates, advertised at [publicservice.go.ke/internship](https://www.publicservice.go.ke/internship/). Internships pay a monthly stipend and give you public-sector experience, which helps later applications.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where do I apply for PSC jobs in Kenya?

National government jobs advertised by the Public Service Commission are applied for online at psckjobs.go.ke. You register once with your ID or passport number, surname, email and a password, complete your profile, then apply for each advert.

### Does the Public Service Commission charge application fees?

No. The Commission says it does not charge any fees for applications, shortlisting, interviews or appointments. Anyone who asks you to pay for a government job is a fraudster.

### How do teachers apply for TSC jobs?

Registered teachers apply on TSC's Teachers Online portal, linked from tsc.go.ke under Careers, using their TSC number. TSC non-teaching (secretariat) jobs use a separate portal.

### Can I apply for a government job without a degree?

Yes. Many government adverts are for certificate and diploma holders, and some for KCSE holders. Each advert lists the minimum qualifications for the post.
